Coronavirus may have us all in lockdown, but that hasn’t meant we aren’t able to train. In fact, the opposite. We all have more time on our hands and are able to spend time outdoors. Everyone knows that health has become a priority and our mental health has also been at the forefront.
Lots of you have been completing workouts with us over Zoom or FaceTime. One person in particular has really made a commitment to training and we want to give her a huge shoutout. Josie Devlin, you are our “Corona Client of the Month”!
At a very difficult time, especially as a small business owner, Josie has been nothing short of amazingly positive and committed. Josie, we love that you have made a commitment to yourself to get to classes regularly, prioritise your health and are glad we have been able to help you through some trying times.
Josie runs the Fake It salon in Chalfont St Peter and has done for 20 years. It is one of the cornerstones of our local High Street and has been forced to close during lockdown. We’re sure many of you know Josie, Fake It and her team! We asked her to tell you more about her experiences and why training has been so important for her during lockdown.
How did you get started at the Fit House?
I started in April 2019 after my good friend Bekki recommended The Fit House to me. She and her husband had been doing some personal training and classes. The gym I was going to before had recently shut.
What do you enjoy about The Fit House? What sets it apart from other gyms you’ve been to?
I love doing classes, the main thing I love is that every class is different so I don’t get bored. The Fit House has created an atmosphere like no other gym I’ve ever been to. It’s friendly, not intimidating and I feel like there’s a family waiting for me when I go.
Look how you’ve supported us during lockdown! You were straight out there, offering online classes and handing out your equipment. Frazer’s nutritional advice has been motivating, even your cooking classes Rachel have been inspiring during this time. This has definitely set you guys apart from other gyms. The fact you CARE about your clients comes across very clearly.

What classes do you enjoy?
I really enjoy the HIIT and STRONG classes.I love that feeling after a workout – sweaty! I really don’t like burpees or running, however during lockdown I’ve been on a few runs and have got my bike out. I’d forgotten how much I love that. I’m getting a lot stronger with the burpees too!
Your business Fake It, has had to shut temporarily during lockdown. How has training help you during this difficult time?
Fake It will be 20 years old this November. When the decision was made to close the doors on 24th March I won’t lie, I found it very emotional and scary. With a team of 19 I felt very responsible for their welfare, until I found out about the job retention scheme. I’ve always worked, even when I had my children I think I only took 6 weeks off. When I was faced with the unknown of when we could return to work and reopen the business, Fit House online classes gave me a routine. Every day I got up and started my day with the 9am class. I’m a creature of habit, I usually do the 6.30am classes. Exercising first thing motivates me for the whole day.
Although this has been a very challenging time for me I’ve kept positive. I’ve used the time to spruce up the salon, getting it ready for the 4th July. For the first time ever I’ve loved being at home being a domestic goddess instead of chasing my tail!

For people who don’t know Fake It, what do you offer and what can people expect when they come to see you?
Fake It is a unisex hair and nails beauty salon. We are a fun, vibrant, caring and innovative team. The majority of our clients have been with us a long time and are our best advocates. Fake It will open it’s doors on 4th July. I’ve been busy putting the PPE in place for everyone. We will be open late 4 days a week offering hair cuts, all colour work, nails and waxing as safely as possible. We’ve kept in touch with our clients via social media and newsletters. You can find us on FaceBook and Market Place in Chalfont St Peter. My concern now is how to fit in all my Fit House classes when I return to work!
